JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (Oct. 24, 2018) - Legacy Village of Jacksonville observed National Assisted Living Week by hosting a weeklong cruise-themed event for residents, visitors and staff.
The five day celebration featured a new port of call each day, complete with traditional dress, meals, decorations and performers to bring each locale to life. All week long, the “cruise” made stops in Mexico, Italy, Hawaii, China, and Greece.
"Our goal at Legacy Village of Jacksonville is to always provide a day full of purpose, enjoyment, and fun. It was heartwarming to see smiles on the faces of our residents as they discovered each new port for the day!" said Robbie Bell, life enrichment director for Legacy Village of Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Mayor Johnny Smith made a surprise visit on the tour’s “Mexico” stop on Monday, bringing with him a City proclamation honoring Assisted Living Week in Jacksonville and urging “our community to become involved with our senior citizens, educated in the programs and facilities pertaining to our senior citizens, and support Legacy Village of Jacksonville during this Assisted Living Week.”
On Tuesday, Legacy Village of Jacksonville’s lobby and dining hall were transformed into “Italy” and spaghetti was served.
Residents visited “Hawaii” on Wednesday, which offered a tropical-themed lunch, hors d’oeuvres, live music and leis.
Cruise week was rounded out with a trip to “China” on Thursday and a journey to “Greece” on Friday when the staff wore togas all day and served gyros for lunch.
"The entire week was such great fun. Residents were so happy to experience these beautiful, historic places as if we were right there. It was a blessing to honor our residents with such a unique and fun filled week," Nicole Smith, executive director of Legacy Village of Jacksonville said.
